The verdict in one line

For most Indian businesses running Microsoft workloads, Azure is the shorter path: three India regions, Entra ID already in your tenant, and engineers who know it. Choose IBM Cloud when you are standardising on Red Hat OpenShift, need bare-metal control, or run regulated workloads that fit IBM’s financial-services and government designs. Sirius Star ships and supports both, and will tell you when Azure is overkill or when IBM is the wrong hammer.

Which one for what

The clean decision guide for common Indian B2B scenarios. Pick the row that fits.

You run M365, Windows Server and .NET

Azure. The identity and tooling are already in your tenant, so you ship faster and hire easier.

You are standardising on Red Hat OpenShift

IBM Cloud. OpenShift is first-class from your data centre to their cloud, with less glue code.

Data residency and low latency inside India matter most

Azure, on its three India regions. IBM’s in-country footprint is thinner, so test latency before you commit.

You need bare-metal control for licensing or compliance

IBM Cloud. Bare-metal and regulated-industry designs are a genuine strength here.

“We were told IBM Cloud was the enterprise-grade one and Azure was just for Microsoft shops. Sirius Star showed us we were a Microsoft shop, moved us to Azure’s Mumbai region, and our team was productive in weeks, not quarters.”

Azure vs IBM Cloud in India FAQ

Common questions Indian buyers ask. Answers grounded in current sources.

Does Azure have data centres in India?
Yes. Azure runs three India regions: Central India in Pune, South India in Chennai and West India in Mumbai. That gives you in-country data residency and lower latency for Indian users. IBM Cloud’s India footprint is thinner, so if residency or latency is critical, Azure is usually the safer default.
When is IBM Cloud the better choice over Azure?
When you are standardising on Red Hat OpenShift, need bare-metal servers for licensing or performance, or run regulated workloads that fit IBM’s financial-services and government designs. In those cases IBM Cloud can be a cleaner fit than bending Azure to match.
Is Azure cheaper than IBM Cloud in India?
It depends on the workload, region and commitment. Azure often wins on steady-state cost with reserved instances and its built-in local SSD pricing. IBM Cloud can be competitive for bare-metal and dedicated needs. Sirius Star sizes both against your actual load before you sign anything.
Can Sirius Star support both Azure and IBM Cloud?
Yes. We are a Microsoft partner and we also support IBM Cloud deployments. We will tell you honestly when Azure is overkill for a small workload, or when IBM Cloud is the wrong tool for a Microsoft-first team.
We already use Microsoft 365. Does that change the answer?
Usually yes. If your identity, email and documents already live in Microsoft 365, Azure shares that Entra ID directory and admin model. That cuts integration work and lets your existing team move faster.
