Dell Base, Dell Pro and Dell Pro Max, mapped for Indian buyers and priced against HP and Lenovo on one call.
How a Navi Mumbai NBFC almost reordered the wrong Dell tier for a 40-seat branch rollout, and the one table that stopped it before the PO went out. Story below.
Dell at a glance, after the 2025 rename
What changed on the badge, what stayed the same in the box, and where Dell sits against HP and Lenovo for an Indian office in 2026.
- OEM
- Dell Technologies Inc., Client Solutions Group. Founded in 1984, part of the group that also owns Dell EMC storage and the PowerEdge server line. Dell sold Secureworks to Sophos in 2025 and spun off VMware in 2021, so the PC business you buy from Sirius Star today is a narrower, laptop-and-desktop-focused Dell than a decade ago.
- The 2025 name change
- Dell retired Latitude, OptiPlex, Precision, Vostro and XPS. What ships now: Dell for consumer-grade laptops and desktops, Dell Pro for business laptops and desktops, Dell Pro Max for workstations, and Dell Premium in place of XPS. Each line comes in Base, Plus and Premium tiers.
- Why buyers get confused
- Some early Dell Pro Base units read as a step down from the Latitude badge they replaced, on paper. The tier name alone will not tell you what you are getting. We check the spec sheet against your old fleet before we quote, not just the model name.
- Typical price band
- Most Dell Pro business laptops in India price under Rs 1,00,000 per unit before GST.* Dell Pro Max workstations run higher depending on the graphics card fitted. Please contact Sirius Star for latest availability and price.
- India position
- Dell holds roughly 22 percent of the India commercial PC segment and ranked number 2 by shipment share in early 2025, per IDC. Assembly runs partly out of Sriperumbudur near Chennai, with national distribution through Redington and Ingram Micro.
- Support
- Dell ProSupport is the add-on we recommend on every unit we ship. It is a paid warranty upgrade over the base warranty, not a partner-tier claim from Sirius Star.
- Where it fits
- Offices that want one OEM across entry laptops, business laptops and CAD-class workstations, with a documented India service record, and are willing to confirm the exact spec behind the new tier name before signing the PO. It fits less well for teams that just want the old model number back and nothing else to change this year, and for them we usually recommend a straight HP or Lenovo comparison instead.
The Dell ranges Sirius Star supplies
Four lines cover almost every desk under the new naming. We map the exact model against your role list in the free tier-mapping call, and we tell you when the new tier name buys you less than the old badge did, not just more.
Dell Pro (Base and Plus)
The general office laptop line, in place of the old Latitude 3000 and 5000 series. Fits reception through mid-level staff who need a light laptop that IT can image and manage across a fleet.
- Fingerprint login and firmware protection built in
- vPro option for remote fixes without a desk visit
- Honest limitation: Base-tier chassis is lighter-built than the outgoing Latitude 5000, confirm the hinge and keyboard spec before a bulk order
Dell Pro Premium
The ultralight travel laptop, in place of the old Latitude 7000 series. For staff who fly often or carry the laptop between client sites all day.
- Lower weight and longer battery than the Base and Plus tiers
- Honest limitation: Premium pricing sits close to last year’s Latitude 7000, it is not a cheaper way to get the old spec
Dell Pro Max
The workstation line, in place of the old Precision series. For teams running CAD, Adobe, 3D or data-heavy work that needs certified professional graphics.
- ISV-certified graphics for major CAD and design software
- Honest limitation: higher-end GPU configurations can run 3 to 4 weeks lead time against lower-volume Indian stock
Dell (Base and Plus) desktops
The desktop and all-in-one line, in place of the old OptiPlex series. For reception, billing counters and any fixed-role seat that does not need to move.
- Small footprint options for tight counters
- Honest limitation: entry Base-tier desktops drop some of the remote-manageability features that were standard on the old OptiPlex Pro configuration, confirm vPro is included before you order
Dell vs HP and Lenovo, after the rename
HP and Lenovo did not rename their business lines in 2025. If the Dell tier names are still new to your procurement team, here is the straight comparison, based on what each brand actually ships in India today rather than on marketing copy.
| Brand | Where it wins | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Dell | Widest single-OEM spread from entry laptop to Pro Max workstation, strong India commercial share, and ProSupport with a documented service record. The 2025 tier names take one call to learn. | Offices that want one OEM across the full desk range and are comfortable confirming spec against tier name before ordering. |
| HP | Naming stayed put, EliteBook, ProBook and ZBook are unchanged, so procurement teams that dislike change avoid the relearning curve entirely. Strong print and accessory tie-ins. | Offices already standardised on HP printers, or that want zero naming disruption this year. |
| Lenovo | ThinkPad keyboard loyalty runs deep, and the naming has stayed stable for over a decade. Strong value in the mid-range. | Teams that prefer the ThinkPad feel or want a familiar badge with no rebrand risk. |

Dell rename and business laptop FAQ
Straight answers for Indian buyers sorting out the 2025 naming change.
What happened to Latitude, OptiPlex, Precision and Vostro?
Dell retired all four names in 2025. Latitude and Vostro became Dell Pro, OptiPlex became Dell in the Base and Plus tiers, and Precision became Dell Pro Max. The XPS name became Dell Premium. The hardware did not disappear, only the badge changed.
Is Dell Pro Base a downgrade from Latitude?
Not always, but check before you assume it is a like-for-like swap. Some early Dell Pro Base configurations trim chassis and keyboard spec compared with the outgoing Latitude 5000. We compare the exact spec sheet against your old PO before quoting.
How is Dell Pro Max different from Dell Pro?
Dell Pro Max is the workstation line, built for CAD, 3D and data-heavy work with certified professional graphics. Dell Pro is the everyday business laptop and desktop line. Most office staff need Dell Pro. Design and engineering teams need Dell Pro Max.
Is Dell better than HP or Lenovo for a mid-size office?
All three are honest choices. Dell offers the widest single-OEM spread and strong India commercial support. HP and Lenovo kept their naming stable through 2025, which some procurement teams prefer this year simply to avoid the relearning curve. We quote all three so you can compare.
Can I still buy old Latitude or OptiPlex stock in India?
Limited residual stock exists through some channel partners, but Dell is not manufacturing new units under those names. We recommend planning new orders against the current Dell, Dell Pro and Dell Pro Max naming so your fleet does not fragment across two generations of badge.
What is Dell ProSupport and should I add it?
ProSupport is a paid warranty upgrade with faster onsite response and, on ProSupport Plus, accidental damage cover. We recommend it on every unit we ship because it is usually cheaper than one unplanned repair visit.
