One NetScaler ADC sized for your traffic. One licence you actually understand before you sign it.
How a Pune-based lending platform stopped its login page from timing out on EMI due dates, and got a subscription renewal calendar nobody had to chase in a panic. Story below.
NetScaler ADC at a glance
What NetScaler actually is, who it fits, and where the licence changed under buyers’ feet in 2023.
- OEM
- Cloud Software Group, Inc. Formed September 2022 when Vista Equity Partners and Evergreen Coast Capital took Citrix private and merged it with TIBCO in a roughly $16.5 billion deal. NetScaler is a business unit of Cloud Software Group, alongside Citrix, ShareFile, TIBCO, Spotfire, Jaspersoft and ibi.
- What it is
- An application delivery controller (ADC). It spreads incoming traffic across your servers, encrypts and decrypts traffic so your app servers don’t have to, and blocks common web attacks through a built-in web application firewall.
- Form factors
- Five: MPX (dedicated hardware), SDX (multi-tenant hardware), VPX (virtual appliance), BLX (bare-metal software) and CPX (containerised). NetScaler Gateway adds secure remote access, NetScaler Console (formerly ADM) handles central management across all of them.
- Market position and Citrix fit
- Runs #2 by ADC market mindshare in independent surveys (around 11.8% PeerSpot mindshare, 2026), with roughly 21% of ADC revenue share industry-wide in 2024. Its deepest strength is integration with Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops and StoreFront, so businesses already on Citrix usually get the fastest payoff.
- Licensing since 2023
- NetScaler ended perpetual licensing in 2023. Every deployment, hardware or virtual, now runs on a subscription-only model. Standard edition and the lowest-bandwidth VPX tiers were discontinued the same year.
- Sirius Star’s role
- We are an authorized NetScaler reseller in India. We size the form factor and licence tier to your actual traffic, not the vendor’s default recommendation, and we track your subscription renewal date so it does not lapse mid-quarter.
- Best fit
- Businesses already running Citrix VDI or DaaS for remote staff, or any app team that wants load balancing, SSL offload, WAF and global server load balancing in one licensed stack instead of stitching separate tools together.
The four NetScaler ranges Sirius Star supplies
Pick the form factor that matches how you run infrastructure. We size throughput and licence tier in the free 30 minute review.
NetScaler MPX
A dedicated hardware appliance you rack and mostly forget about. Runs the ADC on its own hardware, no shared resources, no virtualisation overhead.
- Dedicated hardware, predictable performance under load
- SSL offload and WAF built into the appliance
- Higher upfront cost than the virtual VPX line
NetScaler SDX
One physical box running several independent NetScaler instances side by side. Useful when one team manages ADC for multiple business units or client environments off a single rack slot.
- Multiple isolated ADC instances on one appliance
- Good fit for MSPs and multi-tenant environments
- More setup complexity to manage than a single MPX box
NetScaler VPX
The virtual appliance. Runs on your own hypervisor or in the cloud, licensed by throughput rather than tied to hardware. The easiest way to start small and scale the licence up later.
- Deploys on VMware, Hyper-V, KVM or public cloud
- Licence scales with traffic, not a hardware refresh cycle
- Shares host resources, so the underlying server sizing matters
NetScaler Gateway
Secure remote access in front of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, or any web app. Handles authentication, multi-factor login and split routing so remote staff reach only what they should.
- Single sign-on and MFA in front of Citrix VDI
- Split tunnelling keeps unapproved traffic off the device
- Adds a licensing line item first-time buyers often forget to budget
NetScaler ADC vs F5 BIG-IP, A10 Thunder ADC, VMware Avi
All four are honest choices. Most Indian buyers already running Citrix VDI land on NetScaler; the others win on different grounds.
| Brand | Where it wins | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| NetScaler ADC | Deepest integration with Citrix VDI and DaaS. Flexible hardware, virtual and container form factors in one product family. | Businesses already on Citrix, or wanting load balancing, WAF and GSLB in one licensed stack. |
| F5 BIG-IP | Broadest enterprise scripting ecosystem (iRules) and the deepest support network for very large deployments. | Very large enterprises with a dedicated network security team and existing F5 skills. |
| A10 Networks Thunder ADC | Lower entry price point, with DDoS protection built in rather than sold as an add-on. | Cost-conscious mid-market buyers who want DDoS defence and load balancing in one lower-cost box. |
| VMware Avi (NSX Advanced Load Balancer) | Software-defined and API-first, with a strong analytics dashboard, and it fits naturally into an existing VMware or NSX estate. | VMware-heavy data centres wanting a software-only ADC without new hardware. |

NetScaler ADC India FAQ
Common questions from Indian buyers. Hover any underlined term for a plain-English definition.
Is NetScaler ADC too expensive for a smaller Indian business?
For a small business running one or two applications, yes, it usually is. NetScaler’s price band runs roughly INR 5 lakh to 25 lakh depending on form factor and throughput tier*, well above A10 or Kemp entry pricing. It earns its cost when you already run Citrix VDI, need WAF and load balancing in one licensed stack, or carry enough traffic that a lighter tool would need constant babysitting.
What happened to NetScaler’s perpetual licensing?
It ended. Since 2023, every NetScaler deployment runs on a subscription, hardware plus software, with no option to buy it once and own it forever. Cloud Software Group also discontinued the Standard edition and the lowest VPX bandwidth tiers the same year. If your renewal quote looks different from your last one, this is why.
Do I need a specialist to deploy and run NetScaler?
For anything past a basic single-app setup, yes. NetScaler’s configuration options run deep, and the documentation assumes networking terms most business IT staff do not use daily. We size and configure the box as part of the quote, and our support desk keeps the runbook so you are not relearning NetScaler mid-outage.
Which NetScaler form factor do I need: MPX, SDX, VPX, BLX or CPX?
Most Indian buyers land on MPX for a single dedicated appliance, VPX to run it virtually or in the cloud, or SDX when one box needs to serve multiple business units. BLX and CPX are software-only options for teams already running a container or bare-metal Linux estate. We size it against your actual traffic in the free 30 minute review.
Does NetScaler integrate with our existing Citrix VDI setup?
Yes, and this is where NetScaler earns its keep. NetScaler Gateway sits in front of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops and StoreFront, handling authentication, multi-factor login and secure remote access in one licensed layer. If you already run Citrix, this is usually the fastest NetScaler deployment to justify.
How does the Sirius Star NetScaler procurement work end to end?
Four steps. A free 30 minute traffic and application review. A written quote in 24 working hours covering form factor, throughput tier and licence term. PO and deployment support, virtual or hardware. Then we track your subscription renewal date so it never lapses without warning.
Ready for a written NetScaler quote?
Tell us your application count, expected traffic and whether you already run Citrix VDI. A sized quote lands in 24 working hours.
