Sophos for CIOs in India: one console, not five dashboards
Where Sophos Central folds firewall, endpoint and MDR into one console a CIO can govern, and where the renewal sends you to price Fortinet. Plain words, for India.
When Sophos still fits
Before you switch, check whether you are actually in the group that should stay put. We sell and service Sophos, so this list is honest.
The renewal landed framed as which EDR scores highest, which for a CIO is already the wrong question. The security team had a firewall from one vendor, endpoint from another, an email gateway from a third, and four dashboards nobody had time to watch before lunch. The question that actually mattered was not the detection score on a lab test. It was whether one console could show the CIO the whole estate, and whether an alert on the firewall could talk to the endpoint without a human stitching two tools together. That is the room Sophos is built for. The highest lab score on the shortlist was never the finding.
Sophos answers the consolidation question with Synchronized Security, a single Sophos Central console that unifies the XGS firewall, Intercept X endpoint and server protection, MDR, email and ZTNA, and lets those products share signals instead of sitting in silos. Behind it sits the world’s largest pure-play MDR service, trusted by more than 39,000 organisations, and Sophos is the only vendor named a Gartner Peer Insights Customers’ Choice across endpoint, network firewall, mobile and MDR at the same time. For a CIO the number that counts is not a detection percentage, it is how many consoles your team retires and how fast an alert becomes a contained incident. Sophos MDR resolves 52 percent of cases end to end by AI, averaging 89 seconds from alert to automated response.
The second argument is the one a CIO gets asked about after the next board security review: who watches this at 2am. Not every mid-market security team runs a 24-hour SOC, and the honest answer is usually nobody watches it after hours. Sophos MDR is that answer as a service, a managed team operating your Sophos estate around the clock, which turns a tooling purchase into an outcome the board understands. For a CIO who has to report coverage rather than licences, that shift from product to managed outcome is the part that survives the meeting.
The honest amber signals belong in the room before finance hears them. Sophos renewal pricing rises and the licensing is complex, with some capabilities gated behind extra products. Firewall throughput drops when every security feature is switched on at once, and reporting is seen as weaker than rivals. XGS is positioned for SMB and mid-market, and lacks some advanced features a Palo Alto or Fortinet buyer expects at the top end. If your estate is a large enterprise that needs maximum firewall throughput with everything on, or your team already runs deep inside a rival’s platform, price Fortinet or Palo Alto honestly beside it. If the driver is consolidation and a managed outcome, Sophos is squarely in frame. We resell Sophos and both of those, so read this knowing that.
Sophos at a glance
The brand you are benchmarking everything else against.
Sophos
- What it is
- Sophos’s unified security stack: the XGS firewall, Intercept X endpoint and server protection, MDR and XDR, email and ZTNA, all managed from a single Sophos Central cloud console.
- Current India line-up
- Sophos Firewall XGS Series (2nd Gen desktop, 1U and 2U), Intercept X for endpoint and server, Sophos MDR, XDR, ZTNA, email and cloud native security, plus Taegis MDR and XDR from the Secureworks acquisition.
- Why a CIO buys it
- Synchronized Security lets firewall, endpoint and MDR share signals in one console, so the team retires dashboards and an alert becomes a contained incident without human hand-offs.
- Where it fits best
- SMB and mid-market estates consolidating multiple security vendors, and CIOs who need a managed 24-hour outcome to report instead of a set of tools nobody watches after hours.
- The honest gaps
- Rising renewals and complex licensing, firewall throughput that falls with every feature enabled, weaker reporting, and XGS positioned below Palo Alto and Fortinet at the enterprise top end.
- Sirius Star relationship
- Authorised Sophos reseller in India. We quote and service it alongside Fortinet, Palo Alto, SonicWall and CrowdStrike, the names you benchmark it against.
The 4 alternatives, honestly compared
Every brand below is one Sirius Star supplies and services in India. We make money either way, which is exactly why we can be straight with you.
Sophos MDR + Intercept X
Endpoint, firewall and a managed team in one console.
- Synchronized Security ties firewall, endpoint, email and MDR in Sophos Central
- World’s largest pure-play MDR, trusted by 39,000+ organisations
- MDR resolves 52 percent of cases by AI, averaging 89 seconds to response
The honest downside: Renewal pricing rises and some capabilities are gated behind extra products, so confirm exactly which modules your quote includes before you sign.

The full endpoint field for a security refresh.
- CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Bitdefender and more compared for India
- Where each one wins on detection, price and managed service
- The honest call when Sophos is not the answer
The honest downside: A wider shortlist means a longer evaluation, so timebox it, because a security decision that drags past renewal leaves you paying month to month on the old contract.
View the Alternatives to Sophos page →Kaspersky
The endpoint and EDR rival many Indian estates shortlist.
- Mature endpoint, EDR and XDR with strong independent test scores
- Competitive India pricing in the mid-market band
- A focused endpoint story rather than a full synchronised stack
The honest downside: Kaspersky is endpoint-led and does not fold your firewall into the same console, so the single-pane consolidation Sophos offers is not the same here.
View the Kaspersky page →GajShield
The India-built firewall for data-security-first buyers.
- India-designed firewalls with a data-security context engine
- Local support footprint and India-first roadmap
- Strong fit for buyers who value a domestic OEM
The honest downside: GajShield is a firewall specialist, not a unified endpoint-and-MDR platform, so you would still pair it with an endpoint and managed-detection layer.

| Factor | Sophos | Sophos MDR + Intercept X | Alternatives to Sophos | Kaspersky | GajShield |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| What the CIO is buying | A consolidated, managed security estate | The unified platform plus MDR | The whole endpoint shortlist | A standalone endpoint and EDR line | An Indian firewall specialist |
| Vendor consolidation | One Sophos Central console | Firewall, endpoint, email, MDR unified | Compared across the field | Endpoint only, firewall separate | Firewall only, pair the rest |
| Managed 24-hour outcome | MDR as a service, always on | World’s largest pure-play MDR | Varies by shortlisted vendor | Add a managed layer separately | Add a managed layer separately |
| Enterprise top-end fit | Positioned SMB and mid-market | XGS below Palo Alto throughput | Includes enterprise-grade rivals | Strong endpoint, not full stack | Mid-market firewall focus |
| India pricing and support | Renewals rise, licensing complex | Confirm modules in the quote | Priced across the field | Competitive mid-market band | India OEM, local support |
| When to skip it | When you need max throughput, all on | When a rival platform already runs deep | When one clear vendor fits | When you need firewall in one console too | When you need endpoint and MDR too |
When switching from Sophos pays off, and when it does not
Moving your security onto Sophos pays back fastest when the driver is consolidation and a managed outcome, not a single lab score. If you are running a firewall from one vendor, endpoint from another and an email gateway from a third, folding onto Sophos Central lowers the console count, lets an alert on one product talk to another without a human, and gives you an MDR team watching the estate after hours. That is the case where the team retires dashboards and the CIO gets coverage to report instead of a pile of tools.
It does not pay off when throughput or a rival platform is the thing you cannot give up. I want to be honest about this, because it is the whole decision. If your enterprise firewall needs maximum throughput with every feature enabled, Sophos XGS is positioned below Palo Alto and Fortinet at that top end, and the money you save on consolidation is not worth a firewall that slows under load. Keep the old controls live until the new console is proven, migrate policy in stages, and test the synchronised response before you retire anything.
The break-even is what your team can actually operate. If you answer to a board that wants fewer vendors and a managed outcome your mid-market team can run, Sophos is the consolidation play and the MDR service is the part that survives the security review. If you answer to a requirement for enterprise-grade throughput or you are mid-commitment on a rival platform, price Fortinet or Palo Alto beside it and let the load test and the licence decide. We supply all of them, so the honest quote sometimes says stay where you are, and we have written that quote before.
