When switching from Sophos pays off, and when it does not
If you already run Sophos and a vendor is pitching a full replacement, here is the test. Switching pays off in one case. The campus has grown a real security team, a night shift, and workloads that a heavier XDR would genuinely cover better. An audit finding that Sophos cannot protect a specific regulated system is a real reason to move. A cheaper renewal, alone, is not.
I will name where this pitch loses. Above a large multi-campus university with its own security operations centre, a dedicated XDR platform beats anything sized for one admin, and pretending otherwise costs you a re-buy in eighteen months. It does not pay to switch when the only complaint is the invoice.
