Top 4 alternatives to Bosch for surveillance cameras in India
Top 4 alternatives to Bosch for surveillance cameras in India
Bosch earns its premium on critical sites, but not on every wall. Here is how Hikvision, Axis, Pelco and Uniview compare in India, STQC status included.
When Bosch still fits
Before you switch, check whether you are actually in the group that should stay put. We sell and service Bosch, so this list is honest.
Stay with Bosch if your footage has to settle arguments. Insurance disputes, gate incidents, forensic review after a theft. Bosch sensors and optics hold detail in harsh light that mid-tier brands smear, and that difference is exactly what you are paying for. On a two-camera entry gate the premium is small money against what one unusable clip costs you.
Stay with Bosch if you run analytics at the edge. Intelligent Video Analytics ships on-board across most of the range, so line-crossing, loitering and object detection run on the camera without a server farm behind it. Sites that would otherwise buy analytics licences and compute separately often find the Bosch premium partly pays for itself in the architecture it removes.
Stay if you are already deep in the Bosch building stack. If BVMS, Bosch fire panels or the PA line are on site, one more Bosch subsystem keeps a single integration surface and one service relationship. Mixed estates are workable, but every extra brand adds a seam someone must own.
And stay put on installed estates generally. The STQC rule that took effect on 1 April 2026 gates new internet-connected camera sales. It does not touch what is already on your walls. Where Bosch stops fitting is volume. Thirty interior corridor cameras do not need forensic optics, and at Bosch prices that specification habit quietly doubles a project. That is when the alternatives below earn a serious look, with one caveat that applies to all of them: in mid-2026 the STQC certified list was led by Indian brands, so whichever direction you go, the shortlist starts at stqc.gov.in, not at the brand’s brochure.
Bosch at a glance
The brand you are benchmarking everything else against.
Bosch
- Who makes it
- Bosch Building Technologies, the security arm of the German Bosch group, with a long-standing India operation.
- Where it wins
- Forensic-grade image quality, Intelligent Video Analytics on-board across most of the range, and lifecycles that genuinely run seven to ten years.
- India price band
- Roughly Rs.8,000 to Rs.60,000 per camera before GST. Enterprise PTZ and specialty lines go higher.
- STQC status, mid-2026
- Absent from the STQC IoTSCS certified list amid the testing-lab backlog. Certification is per model, so check stqc.gov.in for the current position.
- Service in India
- Structured partner network with proper escalation paths. Slower than commodity brands, far more predictable.
- Ecosystem
- BVMS video management, tight integration with Bosch fire, PA and intrusion lines.
The 4 alternatives, honestly compared
Every brand below is one Sirius Star supplies and services in India. We make money either way, which is exactly why we can be straight with you.
Axis
The other engineering-first camera brand.
- In-house ARTPEC chipset, signed firmware and a mature cybersecurity program
- Open ACAP platform runs third-party analytics on the camera itself
- Strong India organisation and integrator bench via Axis Communications India
The honest downside: You will not save much. Axis pricing sits in the same premium band as Bosch, and Axis was likewise absent from the STQC certified list in mid-2026, so every model needs portal verification.
View the Axis page →Pelco
A Motorola Solutions brand built around VideoXpert.
- VideoXpert VMS scales cleanly to many-operator control rooms
- Sarix camera lines handle low light and harsh environments well
- Motorola Solutions backing gives roadmap and support stability
The honest downside: Thinner India channel than Bosch’s partner network, longer lead times, and the same per-model STQC verification requirement as of mid-2026.
View the Pelco page →Hikvision
The price point every Bosch quote gets compared against.
- Largest installed base in India, so every integrator knows the kit
- Vast documented range from 2MP domes to enterprise PTZ
- Historically a third of Bosch money for comparable pixel counts
The honest downside: Hikvision-branded cameras had zero STQC-certified models as of mid-2026, so new internet-connected units are effectively blocked in India. Treat it as an installed-estate brand, not a new-project option, until that changes.
View the Hikvision page →Uniview
The other Chinese value brand Indian integrators know well.
- Value-priced IP range with easy ONVIF pairing
- EZStation VMS keeps small multi-site setups simple
- Wide dealer availability made it a common Hikvision substitute
The honest downside: Uniview sits behind the same STQC wall, no certified models as of mid-2026, so it solves the Bosch price problem only for estates that already run it.

When switching from Bosch pays off, and when it does not
Switching away from Bosch pays off when the specification is heavier than the risk. Interior corridors, stockrooms, society common areas, parking levels. If a camera’s job is presence and deterrence rather than forensic identification, a certified mid-tier model does the job at a third of the money, and across thirty or forty positions that difference funds the whole recording layer.
It also pays on tenders where the compliance line, not the image line, decides the bid. In mid-2026 the STQC certified list was led by Prama, CP Plus, Sparsh, Matrix and Honeywell. If the tender demands certified hardware today and the Bosch model you want is still stuck in the lab backlog, the certified brand wins the line item regardless of anyone’s preference, and Sirius Star quotes those brands too.
Switching does not pay at the points where Bosch is actually doing Bosch work. Entry gates, cash handling, perimeters with analytics rules, anywhere footage may end up in front of an insurer or a court. Downgrading those positions to save a few thousand rupees per camera is the most expensive saving in security.
The pattern that works is the split estate: Bosch, or another premium certified model, on the handful of positions that justify it, certified mid-tier everywhere else, one VMS above both. Sirius Star maps this in a free 30-minute review, and the written quote lands within 24 working hours with STQC certificate numbers recorded line by line.
