Apple for CIO in India: the fleet, not the phone
Where Apple earns its place across a managed iPhone and iPad fleet, and where a CIO still needs a paid MDM and a plan for Apple Business Manager. In plain numbers.
When Apple still fits
Before you switch, check whether you are actually in the group that should stay put. We sell and service Apple, so this list is honest.
The proposal arrived framed as which phone should we standardise on, which for a CIO is already the wrong question. The handset is the part everyone can price. The fleet is the part nobody costed, the MDM licence, the Apple Business Manager enrolment, the four-year refresh, the resale value at the end. The board saw a premium sticker against an Android quote and asked why the expensive one. The real answer never fits on the comparison slide. Apple is not sold on the phone. It is sold on the years after the phone.
Apple earns the estate for reasons that survive scrutiny. One identity layer in Apple Business Manager ties iPhone, iPad and Mac to your directory, zero-touch enrolment means a device ships to the user and configures itself, and the OS support runs four to five years while an Android fleet fragments across vendors and update cycles. For a CIO consolidating vendors, that is a genuine pitch, one platform, one enrolment model, one support story your team already knows. Apple crossed 20 percent of India’s enterprise tablet segment in the first half of 2025 on the M-series iPad, and the hardware holds resale value the way an Android fleet rarely does. The premium buys a longer, quieter life.
The second number only shows up when the fleet has to be managed, not bought. Apple Business Manager handles identity and enrolment, it does not manage the device, so full fleet control still needs a paid MDM like Microsoft Intune or Jamf sitting on top. That is a line the handset quote never mentions, and it is the line a CIO is positioned to catch and nobody else is. The onboarding itself is not free of friction either, domain capture and verification trip up teams who expected Apple Business Manager to be instant. Budget the MDM and the enrolment week before you sign, not after the phones land on desks.
So the honest amber is not about the product, it is about what surrounds it. Apple costs more per unit than an Android fleet, needs a paid MDM to be actually managed, and rewards a team willing to run Apple Business Manager properly. If your users are cost-sensitive and your estate is judged on sticker price alone, price a Samsung Knox fleet beside it and read the four-year math honestly. If you value long OS support, resale value and a fleet that stays quiet, Apple is squarely in frame. We resell Apple, Samsung and the Intune that manages both, so read this knowing that.
Apple at a glance
The brand you are benchmarking everything else against.
Apple
- What it is
- Apple’s enterprise mobility estate: iPhone, iPad and Mac tied to Apple Business Manager for identity and zero-touch enrolment, managed through a third-party MDM like Intune or Jamf.
- Current India line-up
- iPhone 17, 17 Pro and Pro Max, iPhone Air and 17e, iPad Pro (M5), iPad Air (M3), iPad (A16) and iPad mini (A17 Pro), plus Apple Business Manager and Business Essentials.
- Why a CIO buys it
- One identity layer across iPhone, iPad and Mac, four to five years of OS updates, zero-touch enrolment, and hardware that holds resale value across a refresh cycle.
- Where it fits best
- Estates that value long support windows, resale value and a low-ticket fleet, and that will run a proper MDM rather than manage devices by hand.
- The honest gaps
- A premium per unit against Android, full management still needs a paid MDM on top, and Apple Business Manager onboarding trips up teams expecting it to be instant.
- Sirius Star relationship
- Authorised Apple reseller in India. We quote and service the fleet alongside Samsung Knox and the Intune or Jamf that manages it, from Vashi, Navi Mumbai.
The 4 alternatives, honestly compared
Every brand below is one Sirius Star supplies and services in India. We make money either way, which is exactly why we can be straight with you.
Apple for Business
iPhone, iPad and Mac under one enrolment model.
- Apple Business Manager ties every device to your directory
- Zero-touch enrolment ships a device configured out of the box
- Four to five years of OS support across the fleet
The honest downside: Apple Business Manager handles identity, not device management, so a paid MDM still sits on top of this.
View the Apple for Business page →Apple Mac for Business
The Mac half of the estate, same enrolment model.
- MacBook, iMac and Mac Studio under the same Business Manager identity
- Strong resale value and a long refresh cycle for finance to plan around
- One support story across mobile and desktop for a lean team
The honest downside: The per-unit premium is sharper on Mac than on an equivalent Windows laptop, so the resale and support case has to carry it.
View the Apple Mac for Business page →Microsoft Intune
The management layer the handset quote left out.
- Enforces policy, apps and compliance across the Apple estate
- Bundled if you already hold Microsoft 365 E3 or E5
- Manages Apple and Windows and Android from one console
The honest downside: It is a separate licence and a real deployment, so budget the Intune line and the setup week alongside the devices.
View the Microsoft Intune page →Samsung for business
The fleet a cost-led CIO prices Apple against.
- Lower per-unit cost across a comparable business fleet
- Knox management and enrolment built into the platform
- OneAssist cover across mobiles and tablets for India support
The honest downside: Shorter OS support and weaker resale value mean the four-year total cost can close the gap the sticker opens.

| Factor | Apple | Apple for Business | Apple Mac for Business | Microsoft Intune | Samsung for business |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| What the CIO is weighing | One estate, one enrolment | Extending it to desktops | Managing the fleet properly | The cost-led benchmark | |
| Identity and enrolment | Apple Business Manager, zero-touch | Same model on Mac | Policy and compliance on top | Knox enrolment on Android | |
| Management layer | Needs a paid MDM | Needs a paid MDM | Is the MDM | Knox is built in | |
| Four-year total cost | Premium, offset by resale | Sharper premium on Mac | A licence line to budget | Lower sticker, shorter life | |
| OS support window | Four to five years | Long, plannable | Follows the device | Shorter than Apple | |
| When to skip it | When sticker price rules | When Windows resale is fine | When you already run Jamf | When you need long OS support |
When switching from Apple pays off, and when it does not
Standardising on Apple pays back when the driver is the fleet, not the phone. If your users churn tickets on a fragmented Android estate, if resale value leaks at every refresh, and if you are chasing OS updates across three vendors, folding the estate onto Apple Business Manager buys you one identity model and a fleet that stays quiet for four to five years. That is the case where the premium is honest and the saving shows up in support hours and resale, not on the sticker.
It does not pay off if you buy the phones and skip the plumbing. This is the whole decision for a CIO. Apple Business Manager enrols devices, it does not manage them, so budget the Intune or Jamf licence and the enrolment week up front, sort domain capture and verification before the phones ship, and keep the old fleet running until the new one is enrolled and proven. A rushed rollout where nobody owns the MDM leaves you with premium hardware managed by hand, which is the worst of both quotes.
The break-even is who answers for the estate later. If that is you and a support queue, Apple is defensible on resale, support life and ticket volume, and priced for it. If that is a board that only reads the sticker, price a Samsung Knox fleet beside it and let the four-year math decide with the MDM line visible in both. We supply Apple, Samsung and the Intune that runs either, so we quote the cost-led case as seriously as the Apple one.
