Apple for IT managers in India, judged on ticket volume
You are measured on tickets closed and nights uninterrupted. Macs cut helpdesk load with zero-touch enrolment, but only where your apps allow the move.
When Apple still fits
Before you switch, check whether you are actually in the group that should stay put. We sell and service Apple, so this list is honest.
09:10 on a Monday, and the phone had not rung. A 90-person design studio in Andheri had swapped 60 Windows laptops for MacBooks the previous quarter, and the IT manager was waiting for the storm that follows any fleet change. It never arrived. The imaging bench was gone. New joiners opened the box, signed in, and the device configured itself from Apple Business Manager before the induction call finished. That is the whole case for Apple on an IT manager’s desk. Fewer things that page you at night.
You are not measured on how fast a laptop boots. You are measured on ticket volume, and on how many devices you can run without hiring a second pair of hands. IBM published the number the rest of us quote back: Macs generated far fewer helpdesk tickets than the PCs beside them, and the ones that did open closed faster. That is not a spec-sheet win. It is a staffing win, the kind your head of IT feels at appraisal time.
Here is the amber signal most buyers miss. A Mac fleet only stays quiet if your core apps allow it. If your ERP is Windows-only, or a finance macro needs Excel VBA, the Mac does not close those tickets. It opens a new class of them. We check that list before we quote, because the quiet Monday is the product, and a half-migrated estate is louder than the one you started with.
So we say the boring part out loud. If a chunk of your line-of-business software is Windows-locked, keep those seats on HP or Lenovo and move the creative and executive rows to Mac. A mixed fleet under one MDM is a normal answer, not a failure. We would rather scope that on a call than sell you 90 Macs and watch 30 of them become a support queue.

HP EliteBook and ProBook
The safe Windows default your app stack already trusts.
- ProBook for volume seats, EliteBook for exec and security roles
- Runs every legacy Windows app your ERP needs
- Wolf Security firmware and BIOS recovery built in
- Widest India service reach, spares in most cities
The honest downside: Battery life and helpdesk ticket rate rarely match Apple silicon. You manage more, not less.

The keyboard and the durability your field team will not complain about.
- MIL-SPEC chassis and the ThinkPad keyboard
- ThinkShield firmware and self-heal BIOS
- Strong docking and accessory ecosystem
- Sharp street pricing on volume orders
The honest downside: Windows management overhead stays. No Apple Business Manager equivalent for true zero-touch.
View the Lenovo ThinkPad page →Acer for IT managers
The lowest acquisition cost when the finance line is the only line.
- Lowest upfront price of the four
- TravelMate business range with TPM 2.0
- Fine for browser and Office-only roles
- Easy to standardise across a large simple fleet
The honest downside: Support depth and resale value trail the pack. Three-year cost can erase the sticker saving.

When switching from Apple pays off, and when it does not
Move the pilot before you move the fleet. Pick eight to ten devices, the roles that live in a browser and a creative app, and enrol them through Apple Business Manager. You are testing one thing. Does your MDM push the profiles and the Wi-Fi cert without a hand touching the machine. On day one that is the whole exam.
The second week is where the amber shows. Watch the tickets that do open. A VPN client that has no Mac build, or a bank portal that only trusts Internet Explorer. Write each one down. Most have a fix, a web client or a supported alternative, and a few do not. The ones that do not decide which seats stay on Windows. That is a scoping call, not a defeat.
Budget for the parts nobody quotes. AppleCare for Business, and a Mac line in your MDM licensing. Neither is large. Both are invisible until the migration exposes them, and an invisible cost is the one that turns a clean project into a noisy one.
Then let the quiet arrive. The measure of a good Mac rollout is not a launch email. It is the appraisal quarter where your ticket queue dropped and nobody in the building could tell you the exact week it happened. Bas, that is the outcome we sequence for.
