Availability on the Power E1180
99.9999%
IBM rates the Power E1180 at six nines of availability, per its Power server specs. That works out to roughly 30 seconds of unplanned downtime a year. This is why banks and insurers keep core systems on Power.

What is IBM Power Systems?
IBM Power Systems is IBM's line of enterprise servers built on the POWER processor. They run AIX, IBM i and Linux, and they are chosen for core workloads that must stay up, such as core banking, ERP and large databases.
The current generation is Power11, which became available from July 2025. The older Power10 line, including the scale-out S-class and the enterprise E-class, is still sold and supported. Sirius Star quotes both, and sizes to your workload rather than a brochure core count.
We have seen a single AIX outage turn a quiet Monday into a war room, so we size for the workload that matters, not the brochure. IBM Power sells in India through partners, not a direct cart. The right partner sizes processor cores, memory and Capacity on Demand to your peak. The wrong one quotes raw cores and lets the licence maths surprise you at renewal.
What does an IBM Power server cost in 2026?
Power11 scale-out for consolidating AIX, IBM i and Linux
The Power11 scale-out servers, the S1122 and S1124, fold many ageing AIX and IBM i boxes onto one modern system. You get more headroom on less rack space and a single support line. They pair well with your x86 estate of rack servers.
From ₹18 lakh indicative, sized on review
Power E-class enterprise
The enterprise E1180 and E1080 scale up to 256 cores with Capacity on Demand. Turn on cores and memory as you grow, and keep six nines of uptime under load.

Three systems on one box
AIX, IBM i and Linux run side by side on PowerVM virtualisation. One Power server can hold the core database, the ERP and a Linux app tier, each in its own logical partition.
PowerVM LPARs · no extra hypervisor licence
AI inference without a GPU farm
On-chip Matrix Math Assist runs fraud scoring and forecasting next to live transactions, so the data never leaves the box. For larger models, the IBM AI tooling and Spyre accelerator extend it.
In-core MMA · AI beside the database
Power Cyber Vault
IBM Power Cyber Vault adds immutable snapshots and ransomware detection in under a minute, so a clean copy is ready when an attack is found. It works alongside your backup software and backup appliances.

On-prem or Power Virtual Server
Keep the server in your own rack, or rent the same Power stack on IBM Power Virtual Server. Run a hybrid mix and keep regulated data in country.

₹250 crore is the top DPDP penalty, and a core outage costs more than money. When customer records sit on an AIX or IBM i system, a long outage hits both your service and your compliance. The DPDP framework expects you to keep personal data available and protected, and the RBI sets resilience rules for regulated lenders. Power exists for exactly these systems.
Who runs on Power, and who should not
Power is a specialist server, not a default. It earns its price on a clear set of workloads.
- Core banking or insurance on AIX
- ERP on IBM i, such as JD Edwards
- SAP or large Oracle databases that need headroom
- Workloads under a strict uptime SLA
- AI scoring that must sit next to live data
- Estates consolidating many ageing UNIX boxes
If your stack is cloud-native web apps and stateless services, a Power server is the wrong tool. We will say so and point you to HPE ProLiant, Dell or Cisco UCS x86 servers instead. Refreshing the laptops around your data centre? Ask about device leasing and DaaS.
IBM Power, x86, or public cloud?
Three honest paths, depending on the workload. We sell all the hardware, so the advice is about fit, not about moving one box.
| What you need | IBM Power | x86 servers | Public cloud |
|---|---|---|---|
| AIX or IBM i | Native home | Not supported | Power Virtual Server only |
| Six-nines uptime | Designed for it | Clustering needed | Depends on region |
| AI next to the database | In-core MMA | Add a GPU server | Data egress to weigh |
| Cost shape | High capex, long life | Lower capex per box | Opex that grows |
Mixed estate? Many clients keep the core on Power and the web tier on x86 servers, with backup tying both together. We help you draw that line.
Frequently asked questions
Who supplies IBM Power Systems in India?
IBM Power sells through partners, not a direct cart. Sirius Star sizes, imports, installs, migrates and supports IBM Power from Vashi, Navi Mumbai, with a sized quote inside 8 working hours and spares reach across 19,000+ pincodes.
Power11 or Power10, which should I buy?
Power11 became available in July 2025 and carries about 45 per cent more capacity than Power10, with six nines of uptime on the E1180. Power10 is still sold and supported. We size to your workload, not to the newest badge.
Does IBM Power run AIX and IBM i?
Yes. AIX, IBM i and Linux all run on Power, often together on one box through PowerVM partitions. This is the main reason teams move ageing UNIX and IBM i estates onto a single modern Power server.
Can Power run AI without separate GPU servers?
Yes, for inference. On-chip Matrix Math Assist runs scoring and forecasting next to live transactions, so data stays on the box. For heavier model work, the Spyre accelerator and IBM AI tooling extend it.
What does an IBM Power server cost in India?
Pricing is on configuration. As an indicative 2026 guide, an entry scale-out server starts near ₹18 lakh and a loaded enterprise E-class runs past ₹3 crore. Sirius Star sizes the exact number on a free review before any PO.

Who is IBM Power Systems India a good fit for in India?
IBM Power Systems India works best for Indian businesses that already have established workflows around the related platforms, need DPDP-compliant data residency, and want a single accountable partner for deployment plus quarterly tuning. Sirius Star runs the entire lifecycle — scoping, deployment, training, and renewal — from a Navi Mumbai engineering team.
How long does IBM Power Systems India deployment take?
A typical IBM Power Systems India rollout in India takes 2-6 weeks from purchase order to production cutover, depending on scope. Sirius Star follows a phased plan: scoping call within 8 working hours of enquiry, design review within 5 days, deployment waves, then a 30-day stabilisation window before handing over to your team or our managed retainer.
