ONTAP, SnapMirror, and what India support actually delivers
A storage array is the support contract. The flash is the same across vendors. The difference is what happens at 2 a.m. on a Sunday when a shelf fails or a controller heads down.
ONTAP is the operating system. It runs on every AFF, every FAS, and inside Cloud Volumes ONTAP. SnapMirror is the replication engine. Sirius engineers configure asynchronous SnapMirror for cross-city DR. For BFSI core systems we set up SnapMirror Synchronous with zero RPO. Snapshot policies get tuned to the workload, not copied from a template.
SnapCenter is the application-aware backup tool. SAP HANA, Oracle, SQL Server, Exchange, VMware. It quiesces the application, takes a storage snapshot in seconds, and gives you a consistent restore point. Most customers run SnapCenter alongside their existing backup product, not in place of it.
FabricPool is the tiering layer. Hot data stays on AFF flash. Cold data tiers to StorageGRID or to S3 or to Azure Blob. The application sees one ONTAP volume. Sirius engineers set the cold threshold per workload, usually 30 to 60 days for the first deployment, tuned after the first quarter of telemetry.
SupportEdge is the service layer. Standard, Premium, and Premium Plus tiers. Premium gets you 8-hour onsite parts. Premium Plus adds an assigned support account manager. NetApp keeps spares in regional depots. Sirius adds local engineers for racking, ONTAP upgrades, and disaster-recovery test runs.

What is the difference between AFF and FAS?
AFF is all-flash. NVMe and SAS SSD only. Sub-millisecond latency. Best for transactional and HANA workloads. FAS is hybrid. SSD cache plus spinning disk. Capacity heavy, cheaper per terabyte. Best for file shares, backup targets, archive.
Do I need SnapMirror Synchronous or Asynchronous?
Asynchronous is RPO in minutes. Good for most DR. Synchronous is zero RPO. Mandatory for core banking, payment switches, anything where a single committed transaction cannot be lost. Synchronous needs sub-10ms round-trip between sites, so it works for Mumbai-Pune or Bengaluru-Hyderabad pairs.
Is StorageGRID worth it over a cloud object store?
Depends. If your data has compliance constraints that require it stay onshore, StorageGRID is the answer. If your workload is bursty and short-lived, S3 on AWS or Azure Blob is cheaper. Many of our customers run both, with StorageGRID as the primary and the cloud as overflow.
What SupportEdge tier should I buy?
Standard for dev and test. Premium with 8-hour onsite for production. Premium Plus when you have a regulated workload and want an assigned support account manager. BFSI core and hospital PACS go Premium Plus.
How long does NetApp delivery take in India?

Do you support ONTAP upgrades and ransomware drills?

Can NetApp integrate with my Veeam or Veritas backup?
