NetApp enterprise storage at a glance

Why NetApp anchors most Indian enterprise storage estates.

What it is
NetApp storage is the ONTAP operating system running on three families: AFF all-flash, FAS hybrid and StorageGRID object storage, plus Cloud Volumes ONTAP for AWS, Azure and GCP.
Who it fits
Indian BFSI, healthcare, manufacturing and telecom buyers who need unified file, block and object storage with SnapMirror disaster recovery and ransomware resilience built in.
The real decision
Not how big the array is, but which family: AFF for latency-sensitive apps, FAS for capacity-heavy file shares and backup targets, StorageGRID for petabyte object archives.
India support
NetApp SupportEdge in Standard, Premium and Premium Plus tiers, with spares depots in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi and Hyderabad, plus Sirius Star engineers for racking and ONTAP setup.
Data residency
Under the DPDP Act 2023, personal data must stay in India unless the transfer is to a notified country. Sirius Star configures every NetApp deployment for DPDP compliance by default.
How you buy
Written Bill of Quantity in 24 working hours, direct from the authorised NetApp distributor channel, with GST invoice and no marketplace ambiguity.

All-flash 2U

NetApp AFF C190 / C250

Entry all-flash storage in one chassis, running SAN and NAS together. Fits VMware clusters, SQL and Exchange, and departmental file shares that need sub-millisecond latency without an enterprise price tag.

Current India models: AFF C190 · AFF C250*
  • Sub-millisecond latency at an entry price band
  • SAN and NAS in a single 2U chassis
  • Right-sized for departmental and branch workloads
  • Indicative price from around Rs 18 lakh
All-flash flagship

NetApp AFF A400 / A800

The workhorse for SAP HANA, Oracle and Tier-1 VMware. NVMe end-to-end on the A800, running ONTAP 9 with FabricPool to tier cold data automatically to cheaper storage.

Current India models: AFF A400 · AFF A800*
  • NVMe end-to-end for the heaviest transactional loads
  • FabricPool auto-tiers cold data to save cost
  • Configure-to-workload sizing, not a fixed SKU
  • Indicative price from around Rs 45 lakh
Hybrid capacity

NetApp FAS 2820 / 8300

Hybrid flash and disk for backup targets, file shares and archives that still need full ONTAP features. Dual-node high availability is standard, and the cost per terabyte runs well below all-flash.

Current India models: FAS 2820 · FAS 8300*
  • Hybrid flash plus disk, lower cost per terabyte
  • Dual-node high availability as standard
  • Keeps full ONTAP feature set on cheaper media
  • Indicative price from around Rs 12 lakh per node
Object store

NetApp StorageGRID SG6060

Petabyte-scale, S3-compatible object storage built for archives, ransomware-resilient immutable buckets and geo-distribution across Indian sites.

Current India models: StorageGRID SG6060*
  • S3-compatible object storage at petabyte scale
  • Immutable buckets resist ransomware encryption
  • ILM policies move data to the right tier automatically
  • Indicative price from around Rs 55 lakh, capacity tiered
Cloud

Cloud Volumes ONTAP

The same ONTAP, SnapMirror and deduplication running as a managed service inside AWS, Azure or GCP. Useful for hybrid disaster recovery in days rather than months.

Current India models: CVO on AWS · Azure · GCP*
  • Same admin tools and SnapMirror as on-premises ONTAP
  • Hybrid disaster recovery live in days, not months
  • Billed BYOL or pay-as-you-go through your cloud account
  • No hardware to rack for a DR copy

NetApp enterprise storage vs Dell, HPE, Pure

All four are honest choices. Most Indian buyers land on the first option for service depth and ecosystem fit.

1

Sizing call

A 30 minute call on workload, capacity headroom, IOPS and DR topology. We run the NetApp sizing tool and benchmark against Dell and HPE equivalents.

2

Written BOQ

Line-item Bill of Quantity within 24 working hours. Model, controller pair, shelves, drives, ONTAP licences, SnapMirror and SupportEdge tier, with two alternatives where useful.

3

Purchase order

Standard payment terms and an ITC-eligible GST invoice, direct from the authorised NetApp distributor channel with no marketplace ambiguity.

4

Rack and go live

A Sirius Star engineer racks and cables the array, sets up the ONTAP cluster and SnapMirror peering, migrates data from your existing array, and hands over a runbook.

A Mumbai BFSI customer needed zero-RPO replication between their primary data centre and a Pune disaster recovery site. NetApp MetroCluster on an AFF A400 pair went live in 11 weeks including user acceptance testing, and their auditor signed off the RBI continuity test on the first run.

NetApp enterprise storage India FAQ

Common questions about this brand for Indian buyers. Hover any underlined term for a plain-English definition.

How much does NetApp storage cost in India?

There is no single price. An entry AFF C190 or C250 starts from around Rs 18 lakh, while a flagship AFF A400 or A800 for SAP HANA or Oracle starts from around Rs 45 lakh. FAS hybrid nodes start near Rs 12 lakh per node, and a StorageGRID object array starts from around Rs 55 lakh, capacity tiered. Sirius Star sizes your workload first, then gives you a written BOQ within 24 working hours.

What is the difference between AFF and FAS?

AFF is all-flash, using NVMe and SAS SSD only, and delivers sub-millisecond latency for transactional and SAP HANA workloads. FAS is hybrid, pairing SSD cache with spinning disk, so it costs less per terabyte and suits file shares, backup targets and archives that still need full ONTAP features.

Do I need SnapMirror Synchronous or Asynchronous?

Asynchronous SnapMirror gives you a recovery point of minutes and covers most disaster recovery needs. Synchronous gives zero data loss and is built for core banking, payment switches and any workload where one committed transaction cannot be lost. It needs a sub-10 millisecond round trip between sites, which works for pairs like Mumbai and Pune.

Which SupportEdge tier should I buy?

Standard suits development and test systems. Premium, with 8-hour onsite parts, fits production workloads. Premium Plus adds an assigned support account manager and suits regulated workloads like core banking or a hospital PACS. Sirius Star matches the tier to how fast each array actually needs to recover, not the whole fleet at the top tier.

How long does NetApp storage delivery take in India?

AFF and FAS configure-to-order units typically ship in 4 to 8 weeks from the NetApp factory. StorageGRID nodes run 6 to 10 weeks. Spare drives and shelves are usually available faster from the distributor depot. We confirm the dispatch window before you raise the purchase order.

Can NetApp integrate with my existing Veeam or Veritas backup?

Yes. NetApp SnapCenter is the native application-aware backup tool for SAP HANA, Oracle, SQL Server and VMware. Veeam has NetApp-aware backup proxies that snapshot directly off the array, and Veritas NetBackup supports OST plugins for NetApp. Keep whatever your operations team already runs.

Not sure whether you need AFF, FAS or StorageGRID?
