Eaton for CFOs who read the three-year cost, not the sticker
A UPS is not a one-time buy. It is a battery you will replace, a contract you will renew, and an efficiency number that shows up on every power bill.
When Eaton still fits
Before you switch, check whether you are actually in the group that should stay put. We sell and service Eaton, so this list is honest.
A UPS quote arrives looking like a hardware purchase. It is not. It is a three-year commitment with a battery replacement hiding in year two and an efficiency figure quietly billing you every month on the power meter. The sticker price is the smallest number in that story. The CFO who reads the other three is the one who does not overpay, and Eaton is a brand that rewards reading them.
Where Eaton earns its premium is efficiency and battery economics. The 9PX was the first single-phase UPS in its class to deliver unity power factor, so the watts you paid for are the watts you get, and it runs at up to about 97.5% efficiency. On the three-phase side the 93PM takes lithium-ion packs that are roughly 40% smaller than the old sealed batteries and last about twice as long. Point being, the line item that usually comes back to bite you, the battery, comes back later and cheaper.
There is a genuine objection to put on the table, because your reseller will not. Eaton hardware carries a premium and the Indian channel is not transparent on price, with large gaps between the printed MRP and the street number. That is not a reason to walk away. It is a reason to make the quote itemised, battery, service, and the true efficiency at your load, before the PO goes out. We open every Eaton quote that way, and half the time the negotiated number lands closer to the value brands than the brochure suggests.
This is not the automatic pick for every rack. If your runtime need is short and the load is small, a value brand like Numeric can be the honest answer, and we say so because we sell it too. Eaton is the call when uptime carries real cost, when efficiency at scale moves your power bill, and when a longer battery life is worth paying a little more for today.

The 3 alternatives, honestly compared
Every brand below is one Sirius Star supplies and services in India. We make money either way, which is exactly why we can be straight with you.
APC
The Schneider default the whole market benchmarks against.
- Largest install base and service footprint in India
- Smart-UPS and Easy UPS cover entry to mid three-phase
- Strong resale and known depreciation profile
The honest downside: On efficiency and lithium-ion battery life, Eaton usually edges ahead at the higher tiers.
View the APC page →Numeric
The value pick when the load and runtime are modest.
- Lower entry price for small and mid loads
- Wide India service reach under Legrand
- Simple, well-understood line for basic backup
The honest downside: Efficiency and advanced battery economics do not match Eaton at scale, so the three-year gap narrows.
View the Numeric page →Vertiv
The data centre heavyweight for larger three-phase loads.
- Strong three-phase and data centre pedigree (Liebert)
- Deep service and spares for large installations
- Good fit above the single-rack tier
The honest downside: For single-phase and mid loads the premium is harder to justify against Eaton 9PX.

When switching from Eaton pays off, and when it does not
Standardising on Eaton changes the shape of your UPS spend more than the size of it. The upfront invoice goes up against a value brand. The running cost and the battery cost, the two numbers that actually recur, go down, because higher efficiency shaves the power bill every month and lithium-ion on the 93PM pushes the replacement out and makes it smaller when it comes. Net effect: the three-year line looks different from the one-year line, and the three-year line is the one you are judged on.
Before you sign, do three things in order. One, get the quote itemised, hardware, battery, and AMC as separate lines, because the Indian channel bundles them and the bundle is where the margin hides. Two, ask for the true efficiency at your actual load, not the headline peak figure. Three, put the battery replacement date and cost in writing now, not at renewal. Do that and the Eaton premium stops being a leap of faith and becomes a number you can defend to the board. If any reseller will not itemise, that is the signal to bring the quote to us first.
