One Ubiquiti UniFi India standard for WiFi, switching, and cameras.
How a Goa boutique hotel swapped four routers and a dead NVR for one UniFi console, and the firmware hiccup that briefly knocked out WiFi mid-checkout. Story below.
Ubiquiti UniFi Networking at a glance
Why Ubiquiti UniFi anchors most Indian networking estates.
- OEM
- Ubiquiti Inc. (NYSE: UI), started in 2005 by Robert Pera, who still runs the company as founder-CEO. There is no per-device software licence: you pay once for the hardware and the UniFi OS console runs it for free.
- Who it fits
- Offices, boutique hotels, clinics, gyms, and multi-branch retail chains that want one login for WiFi, switching, and the gate camera, run by an internal IT person rather than a dedicated network engineer.
- Entry price band
- Entry U7 access points run roughly Rs 13,000 to Rs 30,000*. A small Cloud Gateway plus two or three switches typically fits a single site out for well under Rs 1.5 lakh*, a fraction of the recurring licence cost Cisco Meraki or Aruba Central charge for the same seat count.
- India presence
- Sold through Ubiquiti’s own webstore, authorised resellers, and a growing distributor base rather than a classic OEM branch network. There is no formal India TAC line: support runs through the reseller and the Ubiquiti community forum.
- Where it does not fit
- Large campuses that need a NOC-grade support contract with a vendor on call the moment firmware misbehaves should shortlist Cisco Meraki or HPE Aruba first.
- Sirius Star’s role
- Sirius Star specs, supplies, and configures the UniFi stack as an authorized reseller, and carries the support relationship that Ubiquiti’s direct-to-web sales model does not offer on its own.
The Ubiquiti UniFi Networking ranges Sirius Star supplies
Pick the range that matches the use case. We size the mix in the free 30-minute review.
UniFi Cloud Gateways
The console and router in one box. Every access point, switch, and camera on site reports back to this single app, so one screen shows the whole network instead of four separate logins.
- Runs the whole UniFi OS console
- Built-in security gateway and VPN
- Best fit for a single site or small HQ
U6 and U7 access points
WiFi 6 and WiFi 7 access points sized to the room, not the brochure. Most offices run a mix of both once the floor plan and wall count are actually surveyed.
- WiFi 6/6E/7 depending on model
- Ceiling or wall mount options
- Managed entirely from the Cloud Gateway
UniFi switching
PoE switches that feed the access points, cameras, and desk phones from one cable run, so a new AP does not need its own separate power brick.
- PoE+ and PoE++ options by model
- Layer 2/3 switching on Pro and Enterprise tiers
- One console, no separate switch login
UniFi Protect cameras and NVR
Cameras and recording on the same console as the WiFi and switches, useful for reception areas, warehouse floors, and gated parking that already run UniFi networking.
- Local recording, no mandatory cloud fee
- Shares the same app as the network gear
- Best where networking and CCTV are bought together
UniFi Access and Talk
Door access control and desk VoIP phones that plug into the same PoE switches and console, useful when a site wants to consolidate vendors rather than add a fifth login.
- Door access on the same PoE run
- VoIP without a separate PBX vendor
- Optional, not required to run the core network
Ubiquiti UniFi Networking vs Cisco, HPE, TP-Link
All four are honest choices. Most Indian buyers land on the first option for service depth and ecosystem fit.
| Brand | Where it wins | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Ubiquiti UniFi | Lowest hardware cost with no recurring per-device licence, and one console for WiFi, switching, and cameras together | Cost-conscious offices, hotels, and multi-site retail chains willing to run support through a reseller instead of a vendor TAC line |
| Cisco Meraki | Cloud dashboard backed by a proper Cisco TAC contract and enterprise SLA support | Larger campuses and regulated buyers who need a vendor on the phone the moment something breaks, and can absorb the annual licence cost |
| HPE Aruba Networking | Deeper enterprise WiFi analytics and wired-wireless integration for large, IT-staffed campuses | Enterprises with a dedicated network team and budget for Aruba Central licensing |
| TP-Link Omada | Even lower entry hardware price for the smallest sites with the simplest requirements | Very small offices or a single retail counter where UniFi’s extra features go unused |

Ubiquiti UniFi Networking India FAQ
Common questions about this brand for Indian buyers. Hover any underlined term for a plain-English definition.
Is Ubiquiti UniFi enterprise-grade or a consumer brand dressed up?
It sits between the two. The hardware and features (VLANs, PoE, WiFi 6/7, layer 3 switching) match enterprise networking gear, but the support model does not. There is no dedicated Ubiquiti TAC line in India the way Cisco or Aruba offer, so the enterprise-grade feel depends on who is running support behind it.
What happens if a UniFi firmware update breaks something?
It happens occasionally, most often after a major OS update on the Cloud Gateway. We test firmware on a staging device before pushing it to a live site, and hold back an update if community reports flag a regression in the first week. This is the honest limitation buyers should plan for, not a reason to avoid the brand.
Can we mix Ubiquiti UniFi with our existing Cisco or Aruba switches?
We have seen offices run UniFi access points and gateways alongside existing managed Cisco switches, as long as the switches support standard PoE and VLAN tagging. Full UniFi Protect and Access features need UniFi switches underneath them, so a partial mix works for WiFi but not for every feature.
Why is Ubiquiti so much cheaper than Cisco Meraki or Aruba?
Ubiquiti sells hardware once and does not charge an annual per-device licence fee the way Meraki and Aruba Central do. The saving compounds over three to five years far more than it shows on the first invoice. What you give up is a formal vendor support contract, which is where a reseller’s own support fills the gap.
Is stock availability a real problem for Ubiquiti in India?
Ubiquiti sells mostly through its own webstore and a smaller distributor base than HP, Cisco, or TP-Link, so specific models do go out of stock at times. We hold buffer stock on the most-quoted models and will tell you plainly if a specific SKU is on backorder before you commit to a PO.
Does UniFi work well for a boutique hotel or multi-branch retail chain?
Yes, and this is where the single console pays off most. One login covers guest WiFi, back-office switching, and door cameras across every property, instead of a separate system per site. The trade-off is the same as anywhere else: no dedicated vendor TAC line, so plan for a reseller-backed AMC.
Can Sirius Star bundle installation and support with the hardware?
Yes. We quote the Cloud Gateway, access points, switches, and an AMC as one line item on one PO, with a single number to call for firmware issues, roaming complaints, or hardware faults, instead of chasing Ubiquiti’s own support channels directly.
